Telecom Operators like Spice Telecom and Reliance Mobile quietly started charging full charges on SMSs sent during festivals. This inflated the bills of ignorant consumers. TRAI spotted this anomaly and has issued a notification to Mobile service providers. TRAI has asked,
- The black out days i.e. the days on which free/concessional SMS are not available shall be clearly indicated in the package itself.
- The SMS charges applicable on these special days shall be explicitly conveyed to the subscribers.
- The dates corresponding to the black out day shall not be altered after the pack is subscribed by the customer.
- There shall be no addition to the list of black out days after the pack is subscribed by the customer.
I really doubt if Mobile service providers will convey this message to its consumers. So if you are a reader of this blog, you can call your operator and ask them for the dates, especially if your address book has more than 250 entries.
