WiMax, the disruptive technology for wireless communications has bitten Indian telecom PSU, MTNL. MTNL which has the available spectrum isn’t sitting quiet and has laid the roadmap for IP Mobile and IP Fixed phones to be deployed on WiMax. WiMax is an IP based wireless data application that enables high speed communication. In a typical deployment, WiMax can support users within a radius of 10Kms without line of sight from the equipment at data rates upto 40MPBs.
WiMax will be a killer application for broadband deployment in India and is the best way to go. I am not sure why MTNL is so short sighted that it doesn’t want to provide TriBand internet over WiMax as it has directly jumped to IP absed phone services.
