If Reliance Communications has a clever role to capture the Rural and Lower Income segment of the Indian Cellular Services, GSM lobby has been successful to get Nokia to work on low cost localized handsets to push their services in the same segment.
Nokia India just a while ago launched 6 new low cost handset models all priced between Rs 2000 and Rs 4500. Though slightly expensive than Reliance, Nokia’s GSM handsets will give consumer the freedom to switch operators by changing the SIM card while in case of Reliance you are the merciful service of ADAG.
Nokia became the frist company in the world to ship 1 Billion Mobile handset last year. By 2010 they epxect to ship 4 Billion handsets.
