Number of broadband internet subscribers in India has been very disappointing. Here is some statistics.
- Number of broadband subscribers at the end of June-2007 – 2.52 million
- Broadband subscribers on ADSL – 83% followed by Cable – 10% and Ethernet Lan – 3.4% and Fibre – 1%. [Source, Draft recommendations for Growth of Broadband in India]
- At the end of March 2007 BSNL and MTNL together have provided just 1.45 million broadband connections using DSL. Available copper loop with BSNL and MTNL – 40 Million.
- There are 71 million cable TV subscribers in India and just 0.25 million broadband connections are on this network
The TRAI has put out recommendation on how to enhance the pace of broadband services growth in India.
