Last November, Bangalore became the first city in India to run wimax trials for citizens during BangaloreIt.In. Subsequently, Delhi announced the Connaught Place Wi-Fi project which was expected to go live on Jan-1st but is running late like the Indian Railways 🙂
Just few weeks ago, Sify launched Wi-max for corporates in Mumbai and Bangalore. When I spoke to their marketing executive, he said that it was not viable for home consumers yet 🙂
So it’s promises everywhere but no fulfillment’s yet. Today Rajasthan,CM, Vasundhara said that Jaipur would be Wi-fied in phases. When ? Nobody knows 🙂
VoIP Gets Expensive
In a related development, Government has set it’s eyesight now on Online Indians. P.Chidambram wants to influence them by collecting 12% service tax on VoIP calls 🙂ET is reporting that, VoIP companies like Skype, Net2Phone, Yahoo, DialPad, MediaRing etc will be brought under the ambit of ISP license. This means your VoIP call to the US/UK has gotten costlier but this will help ISPs roll out their own VoIP packages as they had been demanding a level playing field for long time. The Government has further added that, it may monitor all this traffic under the National Security issue.
